Pegasus is a not-for-profit community organisation that provides equestrian activities for people with a disability. We deliver therapeutic, sport & recreation programs in a safe & supportive environment, to encourage people of all abilities to succeed & achieve their personal goals. We operate out of purpose built facilities on our 100 acre Riding for the Disabled Centre on the outskirts of Canberra. We are seeking an Experienced Equestrian Coach to work with riders with a wide range of intellectual & physical disabilities. Our coaches also teach able bodied riders. JOB ROLE: Coaches are critical to the quality of our programs & the ‘feel’ of our environment. They are also responsible for the safety of riders, volunteers & horses in the program. Coaches must be enthusiastic, motivated & keen to provide fun & progressive programs for riders to develop their physical, social & technical riding skills. Planning, evaluation & record keeping are the key to monitoring & achieving rider development. Coaches need to be able to modify tasks to suit the individual abilities of each rider. KEY TASKS WILL INCLUDE: Coaching groups & individuals both with & without a disability - Assisting in the selection & training of horses - Training & ongoing supervision of volunteers & trainee coaches - Caring for & on-going training of approximately 25 horses - Contributing to the development of Pegasus programs. All of these tasks will be undertaken in the context of the policies of the Riding for the Disabled Association of Australia & Pegasus. SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS: Coaches with RDA, EFA or Pony Club qualifications are encouraged to apply. The successful applicant will have sensitive horse skills, experience coaching beginner to intermediate riders & a desire to gain Riding for the Disabled coaching qualifications.
